And now some more détails...

All these are not original, rear alloy drums, front 300mm vented discs and detailed underneath.

What puzzles me is that your discs seem to have the arc of dimples facing the opposite way to that recommnended by EBC for their discs. Is that right???

Hi Dave,
Mine are not EBC and they didn't have any grooves, which I think are the reason of this recommendation. I didn't get any instruction from Peter for mounting. But I sent an email to ask him if there is something like that.
When I ordered he said that the radial holes don't do anything in a road usage, but is more aesthetic. Of course in a racing usage it permit to gain some weight and avoid the glazing phenomena. On racing cars (especially Porsche) I often saw beginning of cracking around these holes.
I'll keep you informed as soon as I have some news (if any).

Hi,
I don't believe it is EBC. If you look at my picture you will see that the disc is bolted on an alloy bell. This minimise the unsprung weight. Peter makes himself a lot of items, in general from a very good standard, but I don't know where his discs come from.

Hi Daniel,
You make a good point here.
In any event, separate bell and rotor is always a good thing ( see http://www.fastfordmag.co.uk/resources/fastford/FAF273.brakes.pdf)

I agree with your comment about the quality of Peter's stuff. The alloy bottles he has made for me have been first class.

Best wishes,
G

Hi,
Very interesting site.
I use several items from Peter (alloy radiator, water box, Panhard rod, discs brakes, exhaust manifold, battery tray...) and I was always satisfied. When I had a trouble he solved very quickly. This is a very good shop.

Hi Dave,
I got the answer from Peter, he said that:
Quote:
As the ventilated casting vanes internally on the rotors are straight cast, and not curved, the rotors themselves are not directional, or handed, so they do not mind which side of the car they are fitted.
As to the holes, their purpose is to help keep the brake pads clean.
The direction of rotation of the holes is purely cosmetic, and will not have any difference on the working which way they are mounted.

So I was wrong about EBC, I think that ventilated internal casting vanes are curved or have a more sophisticated shape, so they require to be unidirectional to work.

These discs look fantastic and I am sure will be as effective as they look.

I just wish Audi would adopt a similar quality for their cars the bells of which end up a rusty mess in short order.

Robert,
I've also been looking at these. As you say, they look great. I was also interested in the drums ( I have the laterally'finned' variety already but unlike Daniel's they are a set of re-drilled ex-Datsuns and quite honestly, the conversion could have been bettter done)

I spoke to John MacDonald and he mentioned another version- with longitudinal finning.
These look very nice ( thread couresty of NigelPuttick- thanks N):

Hi G,
The drums showed on this site look very nice. When I bought mine in 2004 I think that they didn't exist yet (at least for Plus 8). It is also possible that it was not so advertised, as the web was not as popular as now and looking from France for special parts for Morgan was not particularly easy by this time. If I remember I had some information from Emog to fit 240Z drums and a Brit friend who was an ex-racer introduced me to MacDonald racing to obtain these drum.

Hi Daniel,
yes, what you say is very much the same as John Macdonald told me. I think he has now started keeping the longitudinally finned drums becuase his stock of the drums with the lateral fins- like yours- is now quite low

The problem with the lateral-finned drums I have is that the re-drilling of the wheel stud holes isn't done very well- so I'm looking for a replacement.

Best wishes,
G
