today we had to put our dearly beloved cat Tommy to sleep. He was 11 years old and lively. 8 days ago he stopped eating and the vet diagnosed a renal failure. There was no chance to make him eat again so this morning we decided to release him from pain.
He was a wonderful, special cat and he choose us 10 years ago - one day he was in our garden and choose us as his tin-openers and best friends.
Nobody can imagine how painful this is and many tears my wife and I have shed today.
So I wanted to show You this pics from my best buddy.

Gerhard, I understand your loss completely. Until a few weeks ago for the last three years we had 6 cats, three sets of twins. The oldest pair being 18 and I had injected him twice a day for 5 years with insulin to control his diabetes and dealt with him when he had the odd diabetic fit.

He and I had a very close bond and I cried buckets when we had to take him to the vet to be put to sleep.mthree weeks later, his twin sister failed over a weekend and on the Monday morning we realised a similar journey was need for her. My wife drove us to the vets and we waited in the car park to be called in and as I put her down on the table she just passed away in my arms.

Tommy looks like he was a very handsome cat and like you, we clearly understand the relationship between tin openers, cats and us! Don't be hard on yourself, understanding humans is an awful lot harder.

I agree with all the sentiments here. So sorry about Tommy. At least you know where he is. Just think Rainbow Bridge. We lost a cat on the A66 on the moors when we stopped for a rest while moving house. The cat was in a harness but still managed to escape. I went back from home twice to ask the locals if anyone had seen him but no joy. I still hate that road.

It is indeed very sad when one looses a family pet. We have had 3 cats and each had their own very different personalities. We often talk about them, never forgotten.

A tough call in so many ways but equally the right one.

What a lovely cat, I can understand your grief. You have had wonderful years together, and they say, they have many lives! Maybe he reappears as his nephew....

Sorry to hear for your loss, he will always live on in your heart.

Very sad - sorry to hear that. We lost one of ours recently - her brother, aged 19, is lying by the Aga right now and seems in good health.

I'm so sorry to learn your news. Tommy was clearly a great friend who you will miss. I'm sure though with time you will get joy from your many happy memories of your mate.
