I promised to post some pics of my luggage solution so here they are.
The first shows the frame folded. Next fitted and the cases clip on and lock so no straps needed. The high brake light shows through. The cases hold a massive amount and can be carried into a hotel. Basically it's a set of bike panniers with the framework adapted. I had to make the triangular plate that fits to the luggage rack. The (white where the black paint has worn off) clips are plumbers water pipe clips which rotate merrily to fit. It all takes about 3 minutes to fit and is totally secure.

Nick, I looked at the pannier route a couple of years ago. Very tempting for convenience and security. I opted for a soft Bootbag instead.
It is a very tempting option though.

The late Graham Beardmore had this solution on his car when I first met him in 2002, lovely chap. He used one case and his brother the other when we went on a Donmog week to Brugge. Being bike cases they are likely to be well sealed, had I not managed to get a Mogbox via a TM member this is a route I would have followed as I used my Givi bike box for years and it never let in water.

A biker history is obvious!
I still remember my first big motorbike tour with my wife. I handed her one bag which she filld up fast and than she asked, where to pack all the remaining stuff...

She has learned her lesson and we travel with (relatively) light luggage since.

Many many thanks for posting. I have been thinking of doing something like this for ages and have been put off by not being able to work out how to make the fitting simple.

Which make of panniers do you use?
I priced some up and found an enormous variation in price.

I empathise with the comments from The Austrian. Unfortunately although former bikers we never got round to touring by bike so my wife still takes more than enough. She has the case on the back and I have a holdall behind the seats. No - not quite true but you get the drift!

I can't remember which make I used, sorry. I had discussions with my local bike dealer which revolved around size of course.
It wasn't cheap though, sadly. I seem to remember it was over 400 in the end.....Though I'm sure I could have done it cheaper if I'd done more research.
There was a lot of hacksawing the brackets by the way!

I'd guess at Givi panniers, although there are many styles out there. I love the fact you have left a line of sight view for the cyclops brake light..!

There is so much of a crossover of thinking between riders and Morgan drivers..

Thanks Nick. I will go to see a bike dealer. I priced up some on line and found £280 per pannier for Givi et al and an extra wedge for the brackets. £400 all in is much more realistic.
