Seeing what some people do when on 'Trials' in their Morgan, just how much punishment can the 'Trad.' structure take? coffee

A lot Frank.
But, one has to remember to go around the whole car and tighten everything up now and then! grin2

Cheers,
Here is another one for you Graham.idea
Is there anything in Car Design that says it is OK to allow parts to hang below the Axel Centres unprotected (such as engine sumps) call

I wasn't going to mention gate stops Frank!!
You should see Dave Sapp's 4/4 - bit taller on the suspension than either of mine, however, some of the tracks he (and many others) drive along in car trials, eg The Edinburgh, I would reserve for my Land Rover only. innocent
My Sister's driveway (one entrance anyway - being further up the hill by 15 feet or so) has quite a steep ramp breakover angle, both the +4 and Z3 do ground easily, the 4/4 being shorter just about makes it, ordinary saloon cars have no trouble.
Car Design? Hmmm, is there anything in that about some of the damn tarmac humps proliferating on our roads? banghead
Cheers,

Original Mini was a classic example of a vulnerable sump/gearbox.
I had a Mini Special for a while - white with orange/brown deckchair seats and Dunlop 10" alloys. Coincidentally it matched my white BGT which also had orange/brown deckchair seats........ shades
Somebody had fitted a suimpguard to the Mini. It was like an oven shelf from a coal oven drilled with regular holes and 1/4" plate. The trouble was, it reduced clearance significantly, and to drain the oil was a nightmare. So I took it off. I never cracked a Mini sump, but it did happen.

If you look at the Roadster, there's almost an inch clearance with the bonnets up, but only half an inch usable in which you could lift the engine. I'm betting though that it would overlap the sides and catch the bonnets. So there may be a tiny amount of movement possible but with a lot of effort and not much benefit.
