I don't really know if this is of any interest...

I was helping my father clear some of his garage out over the weekend and I chanced across a book called "British Cars 1952" by Peter Chambers. As you can probably imagine from the title, it's a lovely book with photographs, specs & prices for every British car produced in 1952. I wish I could buy a +4 for £880 today

We still have avery old copy of " The Motor" about the house somewhere from 1965. An E-Type cost the round figure of 2K!

I'm a sucker for old books My father used to work for BMC so he has some interesting things ferreted away. I think the best find was what he thinks are some handwritten notes by the director of Wolseley from around 1908 detailing weights, measures & technical information for one of their cars. I'm hoping to borrow them next time I see my parents so I can scan them in and have a proper read of them

I'm fairly lucky in that Hay-on Wye is within reasonably easy striking distance for me and I get to go over the Gospel Pass to get there which is a major bonus in the Morgan:

Like a lot of 'book-orientated places' there is good stuff but often buried beneath mounds of absolute cr*p.

A couple of summers ago I was in a shop there looking for a specific car book ( John Thornley's " Maintaining the Breed") and a guy came in and bought three sacks of books. He wasn't bothered what they were- he told me he used them as the cheapest way to fire up his wood burning stove!

that's almost as bad as the Nazi party in 1933, burning whole library's of books if they disagreed with the teachings of the 3rd Reich!

Not that far from Hay, don't think I've ever driven that road - looks great!
Did the route up from Abergavenny past Llanthony? many years ago in my first LR. Must go back and do it again in the Mog!
As for the book burning - very sad!

Yes, that first part( Abergavenny- LLanthony and on up to Capel y Fin) is great, although being so narrow it can be a pig if you're stuck behind anything.
The second 'half' ie Hay Bluff down to Hay itself is a good road either way, although I prefer to do it as a climb up from Hay.

I would rather forget my first experience of it though- night road rally ( Red Dragon I think) and we managed to put an Escort Twin Cam in a ditch. I've never seen a McPherson strut at that angle before!

Incidentally, if you are looking for old books and can't find them in shops, I've always found http://www.abebooks.co.uk to be excellent.

Yeh, it's also a good biking road so long as it's dry. The weather up there can be pretty rough and the road gets very muddy at a couple of points.

Thanks for the web link. I use the web a fair bit for old books ( mostly car and legal history stuff) but I don't think Ive used abe. I'll take a look.
