Sideways Steve & Missprint

Finally got the hang off attaching pictures, now all I need to master is adding a picture to my name and those emoticon thingies.

Frank,
In addition to beinbg a British Sports car nut, my father was an avid collector of motor racing books- most of which I still have, Among his section on Austin Healeys, there is an entry which states that "at the 1960 BRSCC Snetterton meeting, a highly credible 3rd place in the over 1600GT category went to the Austin Healey of Robert 'Sideways' Staples "
Would this be the same guy?

regards,
G

PS yes, I know, I need to get out more!! drive

There was a Bob Staples who came 21st in the 1960 Formula Junior British GP driving a Deep Sanderson-Ford powered Lawrencetune car for Westerham Motors.

Deep Sanderson cars were designed by Chris Lawrence, owner of the company and also owner of Lawrencetune engines, supplier of tuned engines for Morgan Motors.

Chris himself was driving for Westerham Motors in the 1960 GP and came 18th.

If you have not read Chris's biography I can well recommend it, a fascinating read.

Just in case there is anyone out there who do not know who Chris is, he co-drove with Richard Baron TOK 258 to class victory in the '62 Le-Mans, he also had a hand in the design of the aero 8.

I feel we have come full circle.

I guess GLLHG is not the only one who needs to get out more!

Thats the man, Gerwyn. Nice finds G & Ray. cheers

Some people did call him Bob but he hated it. Always preferred to be known as 'Robert' and 'Sideways' by more intimate motoring friends.
