Aston Martin Cygnet

During my walk to pick up a sandwich for lunch, I saw this new Aston Martin Cygnet.

I wondered if it would look better in the metal than in the press shots; in my humble opinion, it did not. Perhaps it was the colour but it looked like an odious little econo-box which has been burdened with a Max Power bodykit, in the hopes of making it look like a mini Vanquish.

sick2

I know they need to reduce the average CO2 in the Aston range but was this the only way?

Apparently it's not tuned, but merely outfitted with a body kit and a leather cabin. The engine is a bog standard Toyota.

My first car was a Nissan. A great little runabout for when I had just passed my test. They are a good manufacturer, and they are especially good at little runabouts. That's all I meant to say smile

I have the same view. One of my early cars was a very well thrashed 240Z- bought because I couldn't run to a Healey 3000- and it gave me hours of enjoyment

Mind you, my nearest neighbour has just bought a Juke for his daughter and, imho, that is a trifle weird in the looks stakes thumbs

Just attended a GTR meet and had a test drive in the 2011 GTR, stunning car and a big improvement on the previous model. woohoo Must say I barely resisted temptation! sick

P.S. Also hate to admit it, but Head Office had a Cygnet on order and cancelled it when we got the Abarth 695. Similar price, but much better mechanical spec imho.

Simon,

I agree about all the noble aims but, surely to goodness, even within those parameters they could have done a better job than this. If it wasn't so bad it would be sad sick

G You are absolutely correct ----one really has to question the thinking crazy2(?) behind why such an iconic brand should be so pathetically represented. Where is the originality? mad2 Sorry Aston Martin it is NOT enough to mimic the Aston Martin grill and slap a badge on some mediocre little shopper that would be indistguishable in any Tesco car park!!! ----Bet that sandwich was hard to swallow Simon?

David,
For me, it brings back fond memories of MG. My grandfather had a succession of their classics ( inc a K4 magnette) and my old man went through their gamut of TF, MGA and then 'B'. In latter years, our dealer was Newtown in Cwmbran ( now Morgan dealers) and the old man's last hurrah was a rubber bumper 'B' I well remember his ( unprintable) resposne as we left the showroom
Good ending though- the next week went up to Libra Motive and bought a TR-engined supersports!

David, after seeing it, I'd lost my appetite laugh2

The sad part of it is that if you want a tiny econo car, the IQ is perfectly suited for the job and circa £20,000+ less!

As I said at the start, this just seems like a petrol-Frankenstein nightmare.
