Talk Morgan Forums Community General Photo Gallery Cobra Lamp with a Chrome Bezel

It sounds stupid but when polishing the R100 I realised that the Cobra Stop Lamp was missing a Chrome Bezel similar to the other 4 rear lamps.

Researching my photos I found that a bezel was not part of that lamp model.

Then I found these photos of a Le Mans 62 car which has a Bezel. Speaking with Keith it is not on the Le Mans 62 Register so unable to ask the owner what lamp has been fitted.

Quite some time spent searching the internet for a 70/72mm Diameter version of the larger tail lamps has so far drawn a blank.

I wondered if any other members here had been down that route searching for such a lamp?

Frank - the photo is mine - At the time I owned the two-tone Roadster in the foreground. It was taken on 5/5/07 during a "Jockmog" weekend at the MacDonald Hotel, Kinloch Rannoch. The Le Mans belonged to Frank Manclark who has had a number of other Morgans in the interim and I believe that he has a +8 Le Mans at this time.

Frank, just had a look at my Roadster as there is also no chrome ring, it does look very similar to the diameter of the ring used on the later round rear reflectors, perhaps they would fit ?

I wonder if Frank changed that lamp and what lamp model he used?

The Cobra opening is only 70 mm which is too small to take the same main stop lamp who's base plate forms the bezel. I will have to check out the Reflector Jon.

There is an alternative style Stop Lamp with the 'push fit' glass & bezel which was used on the original Mini. This is 72mm diam. but is not a match to the style of the other lamps as

Absolutely no problem with using the photo in your quest. I may see Frank at an event in mid September and if I do I will ask him about the Cobra on the Le Mans.

Frank, I've had time to look properly, not good news, the reflector bezel is approx 5mm too small in diam & I've measured the classic Mini which 'roll in' much more to hold the glass lens and are therefore even smaller diam at the inner edge

When I‘m right there where cheaper lamps without chrome on Land-Rovers.

Also on some Minis where used orange lamps without chrome as indicator lamps.
