While walking through Camara de Lobos we came across a wedding, this Fiat delivered the bride to the chapel to loud applause from onlookers. The car itself purred along quietly and convincingly with only a puff of smoke giving away the age of the engine.
The small harbour, immortalised by Churchill painting the view looking west from the promontory, was draped out with decorations made from plastics recovered from the sea or saved from landfill, they were fabulous in every sense, beautifully created and fashioned. The visit was marked by a comedy of errors. I gave away my only change to a vagrant panhandling in the car park only to discover that I needed that change for the parking meter. No problem, I’ll download the app which took an age and then refused the password I chose, no problem, we’ll sit at the convenient cafe and have a drink and I’ll pay with the change. 5 minutes later I was back at the machine purchasing my ticket and making my way to the car which already displayed a parking ticket. I spent another enjoyable 10 minutes paying the charge online through the app I downloaded earlier which had decided to accept my password. We had a good lunch.

Like many others, our last trip was postponed several times and finally cancelled.

How is Madeira faring now, post-covid ?

Yes, agreed, so cleverly done by people who are trying to persuade us to behave better in a way that is not finger-pointing

Our first time so I can’t really comment. I sense it is diminished by Covid travel interruptions although it’s 2 principles incomes are unaffected, bananas and Madeira wine

ah yes , the Madeira wine;I remember going to the Blandy's Madeira tasting masterclass - I just don't remember leaving.......
