Fairly new builds? ..... tipping their hat a thatched roofs? which quite often have that organic form ... certainly adds interest

I bet it helps reduce lift of the roof in gale conditions.

I can remember seeing quite a few like that when we toured the Low Countries of Europe and Denmark whilst working in Western Germany and Denmark.
