John - I had the same problem with the mat & pedals on my previous car (Caterham 7) and employed the same remedy. However, over time heat from the engine - and sun when parked - did a very effective job in melting the velcro adhesive. I was surprised how far it had run and what a really nasty, sticky mess it made. It took me a good hour, lots of white spirit and three pairs of disposable gloves to get it cleaned up.

I've used "lift-a-dot" fasteners, as used on the hood and tonneau to secure the floor mats on my 4/4....very effective and no nasty velcro.
