I don't know why the factory insists on fitting the bonnet strap with the buckle on the offside as the frequently checked items, dipstick,coolant level and washer bottle level are all on the nearside on the 3 litre engine. Is the 3.7 the same?

Yes the buckle on the 3.7 is on the offside and the dipstick is on the nearside.
Perhaps it's so as you overtake lesser vehicles you don't blind them with the reflection from the buckle? Perhaps it's to give instant access to the fuse box? Who knows?!
