I too am not over happy with the plastic cowl on my 2011 +4, however my previous +4 ( a 2007 ) had a much neater type which was shorter and enclosed the steer boss such that only the alloy part showed.
Would the earlier type fit the later model?
The earlier cowl - I have it on my 2005 4/4 - is a LandRover part including stalks and ignition switch direct from a Mk1 Discovery or Mk1 Freelander. This is of reasonable quality and shows off the whole of the fluted boss on the Motolita (which is aluminium not s/s), and as it's black goes well with my black leather. The leather covered solution on the Allon White website is the earlier cowl.
I agree the new cowl is just nasty and cheap.
