In my opinion you don't need it in the current series Plus 4. My friends '99 4/4 has very heavy steering though. I have tried to talk him into upgrading to bearings instead of the damper blades. I am sure the rack and pinion steering on the newer cars makes a difference too.

A Roadster with the much heavier engine up front may be another matter.
