A worthy sentiment. I also use a clay bar and the result never ceases to astound me; it removes so much gunk from the paint. Once clayed, the panels respond so much better to polish.
Absolutely. Panel preparation is the single most important aspect in detailing. A clay bar is essential if one is striving to achieve 'the ultimate shine'. Wax only adds about the last 10-15% of a car's look - it's the prep and the paint correction (polishing) that adds the most.
