It can get hot in the foot well when I am driving in an Australian summer but I have found that if you run the fan (heater off obviously) and make sure the vents pointed to the feet are fully open with the vents directed to the cockpit fully closed it is much more comfortable.
ps, I do like Graham's idea of the bonnet adjustment
