Thanks. I think the good folk at Richard Thorne have sorted it. The front catches were pretty stiff so they have filed them down a little and generally fettled around with all 4 catches. Now, with a little technique and reasonable strength, I can open them
Looking at the position of the catches and comparing them with a 4/4 in the workshop I can see what they mean about the positioning. The catches are much further forward on the Roadster and the angle can cause difficulties when opening the bonnet.
