We weren't terribly concerned about long term life of the machines - lasting to the end of the winter and the project suited us just fine! The skidoos would also burn just about anything once you got them started. Air cooled 2 stroke twins with shrouds round the cylinders to keep them warm and if I remember correctly plastic fuel tanks too.
