Chipex is very good - I've used it a few times. Have you got a shot of the scratches?
Home painting for touch ups is ok for stone chips, but much tougher for scratches.
If you're back to the metal, it might take you a week of evening patient painting to make a decent job of it. Each layer is, of course, terribly thin, and you'll need to build up very slowly and not be tempted to rush it.
I'm very happy to PM you some tips if you decide to go ahead and do it yourself.
The worst case scenario, of you bridge it, is that you'd take it to a spray shop afterwards. So it's not a massive risk in some respects.
