Wow ! 129 readings but not one response to my question , not to worry as I said I was suffering with erratic readings on the speedo , up to about 60 all seemed reasonably accurate but above 60 and it just went crazy often indicating 120 mph at 70 mph .
I checked all connections and wiring and all seemed well so I decided to try a capacitor as I felt the signal must be " unclean" . I fitted a capacitor ,actualy a condenser from an old distributor ,accross the signal line and ground and yahoo it's fixed , then off to a once straight stretch of road and I calibrated it as per the VDO website , works just great , I am a happy camper
