firebirds in the late 60's by the crowd I ran with were considered 2nd best to the camaro and the Pontiac GTO was better than the camaro, me it was quite a mental adjustment getting used to the engine sizes
what did surprise me was how many liked healy's and the mga had a great following as indeed did the older MG's . heaaly 100/4 and 100/6 were popular but expensive....
