I found a Gunson Trackright on ebay, you just lay it on the ground in front of a wheel, drive or push the car over it, and the little pointer tells you the answer. Easy.
I fitted my damper by bolting a couple of small metal plates with bolt holes, inside the end of the cross brace behind the engine, this supports one end of the damper, the other end was clamped to the track rod end, using a spherical bearing to accomodate movement. When fitted, it doesn't make the the steering any heavier and I ran it for around 500 miles with no problems, but no improvement either, so took it off again.
