with my TomTom Rider I have no problems with the GPS-signal, I can use it with gloves (it is made for motorcycles, so it is waterproof, you can use it with gloves and the screen is brilliant enough also in the sun). It cames with a software to produce routes on the homecomputer (TomTom Tyre) and then you can follow this route. Beside the possibility to search the quickest and the fastest route, you can search for "winding roads" and this works very well. You can also import your own POIs.

Oh I forgot, for being waterproof, there is no entrance for a wired externel GPS-Antenna, but it has bluetooth, so you could use it for phoning with your mobilephone
