Nick, yes you should run light oil or suchlike down the beading on the bodywork. I'm not sure Waxoil is the right thing....it will so semi solid and prevent you applying more later. You can use a thin oil like 3 in 1; I use ACF50 which has great creep properties and is also a useful spray for spraying other areas to prevent salt damage.
