A disadvantage of the "U"bolt style is that the loop(U) part can put a crease in the pipes (outer and inner) so that even when the clamp is removed you still cannot pull one section out of the other. This is because they have been over-tightened to compensate for a poor fit at the joint or just too much enthusiasm.
