Happened to be when my plug lead "worked loose" and fell off, limped a few miles to the dealer and was red faced when he just put the plug lead back on.
Chap following said i was issuing flames from the exhaust affected.
My whole exhaust blued on that side; test polishing shows it can be polished back to it former shiney state; when i have the time or inclination.
