I knew it was in my mind but could not remember which one . On the subject of The London Rubber Company this should give you a laugh . My old man had a large van for his business a local chap who was a rep for the LRC asked him to clean out his garage . The two of them filled the van with all the cardboard add stuff and boxes etc . I was a single lad and my mates just sat on the cardboard on a Sat/night out. If I was lucky and chatted up a girl the looks I got from the boxes in the rear kept me laughing for days and it was comfy . I went to a night club in Sunderland a few streets down from John street it was frosty and snow in the gutters . So thinking wise I put it in a car park a few more streets down . Did not want a ticket because of yellow lines under the snow that I could not see.
Only the van standing in the car park , it was one of those night clubs you have to rock your feet as your heels and toes stuck to the carpet if you stood still for a few moments and it was just a few streets from the van.
On setting off home we walked to the van I opened the rear doors my mates climbed in and we set off home , but a car was acting odd and trailing me from the car park . I was going to stop and call the police but drove on . By the time I got to the Tollbar pub ( its gone ) the road was blocked by Police cars . They stood in the middle of the road to stop me and it was covered in ice I had to use my skill to miss them and the cars . "Out out now" was the police shout , they had looked in the rear windows seen the flat cardboard and thought we where robbers and had raided shops so set up this road blockage . We all had suit and ties on when asked what had we been doing " chasing girls" did not go down very well . They looked and felt like fools and my mates could not stop laughing and cracking jokes right time to go Buster ok Ronnie we have a train to catch . I told them I was going to stop and call the police due to the one on my tail . It would have been so easy if the had came over as we started . Still laugh at it when I see a condom machine. laugh2

Yup, you are right, The London Rubber Company in the guise of Durex sponsored the Surtees team in 1976.
