I guess this young talented, cool, sexy nice-tone pretty to fall in love with bass player wasn't even born when the original studio recording appeared in 1974. The original studio version was an eye opener to me regarding hifi sound, mostly because of the Rhodes flanging and vibrato sounds (which I miss on this live recording). Otherwise on this new video the drummer has kept the soul of the original drums playing the brushes and with such an excellent timing and tension overall.
BTW I read that Jeff was being off the wall when he saw the original LP cover showing him with a Les Paul but he was in love and play with his Strat at that time.

The whole concert is on YouTube and worth a look... Tal is a great player and Vinnie Colaiuta a superb drummer - he rose to fame with Zappa, Corea and Hancock. He rivals Erskine, Gadd and Carlock for sensitive play. You're spot on, there's tension in his playing... It's quite something. Check out 'Nadia' on the same concert.


ETA. Heinz not sure if this will play - John Abercrombie with Erskine. The drumming, I think, is sublime. As you picked out a feature of Vinnie's technique you might like this.
