I changed the voltage regulator,thought I had solved the problem,came to the car following day to find the battery at 2volts. The following night I disconnected the connection of the alternator, the battery kept its charge perfect.
Next step was to change the rectifier,after talking to the supplier of the voltage regulator, he suggested I could go on spending money and suggested I bought a new alternator complete £105 including the postage. This I did, the car is perfect again, thanks for you help
