Not my area of expertise but a friend had +4 with the Rover engine around this year and this was a persistent problem from new. Start up, drive out of garage, stop engine, go indoors come out car is dead. Occasionally opening and closing the battery isolator cured it but finally he spoke to a guy used to electronic systems. The only bit I can remember was that it concerned the fuel pressure and an electronic system that inhibited the ignition. The engine would turn over but not always start, after several minutes, that seemed like an age it would eventually fire up.
Of course this assumes that the fuel system is all in A1 condition re filters, pump, etc. If everything is OK and the problem persists I would suggest calling Chris Crane of RPI Engines at 01603 891209 as he solved my pal's dilemma.
Often my pal was last to get away from a stop through this trouble.
A bit vague but might help.............
