Just back from a Simpson Desert crossing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simpson_Desert (no place for a Morgan!) and despite it being a remote and 600Ks+ journey there were plenty of 4WDs there as well.
Just back from a trip "up north" to Carnarvon and the number of 4x4's and off road caravans was amazing. Sounds like fun.
Bet there was'nt too many B & B's with a good ale and the only local food you would have bought would be a meat pie and an iced coffee.
