I think I can help you as when I brought my Morgan I found the same crazy design. High restrictions plus very hot intake air.
Following hours on the internet I found an intake upgrade from
www.revolutions.UK.com . using K&N filter fitted on the l/h side with larger and shorter tubes, the fresh air enters via the hood grills.
the complete kit comes with excellent instructions and very easy to fit.
I fitted it last week and I used an obd2 engine diagnostic tool to check for improvements. The intake now has no restrictions and the air is much 20 deg cooler + my engine runs much smoother and even though a little noisy I am very happy with the improvement's.
