Our friend with a '99 4/4 had a press fit switch which blew out and before he was aware of it the motor overheated and the head was warped.

As chance would have it he was visiting the UK and only a few miles from Malvern. When they fixed the radiator they soldered the switch for extra security. He was told that this was often done for cars that were used in hot climates.
