Hi Ralf, it just refers to the reduction ratio of the differential gear in the rear axle - for every 4.1 turns of the propellor shaft, the rear axle shafts make a single turn. Morgan fitted several different rear axles with different ratios, and this is the lowest of all of them. It means the cars are relatively low-geared, giving a very sporty feel. The higher ratios give a more relaxed cruise.
For a 4/4, I think the 4.1 : 1 ratio is by far the best...
