I've now driven 2 S2s, including mine and an S3
The Getrag (thanks John, I stand corrected) unit on the 3.7 S3 is a delight.
I was told the box used on the S2 is also used on the Transit.
On my car if the change is rushed it baulks, but the lever is easy to move. Quite similar to a manual transmission I had on an old Mercedes. On the other one I drove the lever needs a much firmer push, but it changes more easily.
I wonder if mine could use an oil change, it has run 25,000 miles..

Also having driven all 3 Roadsters when recently looking, I would say the easiest and most compliant is the S3. the gearbox is great, steering with the electric power assist is great, mine is setup with adjustable AVOs all round and brake reaction bars, the only think I might add is a Panhard rod, apart from that it is one of the best traditional type Morgans I have driven. Finally it is very quick!
