Did have a similar problem with my 2000 year Range Rover, which I think had the same engine. They found it was the throttle potentiometer, which I think transmits the throttle position to the ECU. So when I came off the throttle it found itself again and off we went. Seem to recall was not an expensive item and was told they can get dirty and problematical. Might be worth a talk to a Range Rover specialist.
