When I visited the Pressed Steel factory in Oxford in the 60's- possibly the Mini line - much the same techniques were in use. I also recall a lot of soft lead based filler being used to fill the gaps between the panels. shocked2
One result was that after an accident not only would the filler fall out, but the panels that had been 'persuaded' to fit would resume their original shape compounding any accident damage! ooo
