There is a vast difference between conventional and hard anodising.Conventional anodising is done purely for corrosion reistance.Hard anodising is basically as hard as hardened steel and is used for wear resistance a good example is the use on motorcycle clutch baskets, I have used it on many applications from caliper pistons to aluminium rear chain sprockets on race bikes.
The thickness of ordinary anodising is 5/10 microns,hard anodising at least 50 micron thick and very hard.A totally different process to normal anodising.
