This doesn't sound right at all. The stub axle is specially made for Morgan and is quite a simple structure. A long thick walled tube with the stub and steering arm welded on. They do vary as the level of the steering arm has changed over the years as the track rod end moved from above to below the steering arm (or vice versa).



It's possible that the bare hub may be a part from another car, but I don't recall seeing any markings, and I've had a good look at four so far.

My problem with this is why the wheel nearly came off. It is so robust that I could only envisage a structural failure at the stub, or possible where a stub axle AND hub are required, then logically if both are damaged, that could only be a bearing failure. An overtightened bearing could grab the stub, and the hub, and damage both by turning the outer race inside the hub or the inner race on the stub axle.
All this sounds like a manufacturing/warranty issue to me, unless there was some road damage.
