If you adopt bonnet corners they will collect grit and abrade the paint. It's better to use double sided tape to fix a neoprene pad on the inside only.
As an obsessive, I prefer an unused spare wheel and tyre. That's just how it is.
You could replace the bonnet tape with high density neoprene, but the tape is traditional and does the job well if kept lubricated.
