Budster is correct, it is a fairly easy job, but can be a bit awkward. What you want is some brake grease. It won't attack the rubber and is quite useful for getting essentially rubber bits over metal, ie cooling hose fitting.
One of those things that you'll wonder how you ever managed without it!
