Charles, the oil tank cap is 'Malvern' quality, had the same issue...
...Easyest fix: go to a rubber shop and ask for oil resistend rubber (which the Malverns obviously wasn't) in 3mm thikness and let them stamp out a disk with 5 cm diameter(+2 on reserve). cost about 3 €
