I had problems setting up my nearside round mirror to see anything useful, until it was gently and politely pointed out at BHM that the whole arm could be clicked into different positions (hard to explain without the car to hand) and everything dropped back into view.
I had been worried about using too much force before. Is this the problem with yours? The round mirrors provide a wider view, rather than showing a different target area.
