Red Three installed the Garage 28 kit, R1NGA installed the Garage 56 (are they the same folks?) and Nippymog installed a stage 2 kit from (?). Given the limited traction the M3W has, at what point does the power increase detract from the driving experience? A stage 1 kit seems to genuinely enhance the driving experience by increasing the willingness of the S&S twin to rev and pull, especially at lower RPMs. I've not seen Nippymog comment on his satisfaction with the stage 2 though I'm willing to bet better judgment on the load pedal is required and maybe tires beg for mercy a little more often. So, is a stage 3 kit from Krazyhourse even drivable or would it be asking for nothing but trouble?
Midgie - yes, Garage-28 is what was jokingly referred to as the point at which one side of the G56 kit had been fitted - nothing more! I went for a destinationless drive again last evening in the sunshine and can 200% confirm my views on the effectiveness of the G56 kit. It is simply better, smoother and more fun everywhere - simple as that. Is it too much? At this level No, absolutely not. The reason it feels so 'right' is that the engine is now simply working as it was designed. It's not tuned to give more power than standard - it's simply delivering the power that it was designed to do.
Stage-1 from MMC is pretty much the same idea, but I remain suspicious (until I hear it), that it will be a louder, sharper sound than the G56 version, on account of the much smaller silencer volume. You can't have flow on a big single (and the S&S is 2 of those effectively of course) without either noise or a very big silencer.
Stage-2 from MMC adds cams and throttle body I think, which IS tuning and will lift the power of the engine by a bit more, but at the cost of bottom-end torque normally. This might not matter in the case of our 3-Wheelers, as we don't typically run full load below 2500rpm (although it's much better when the engine is working as designed, in that respect), but there will be some trade-off, as this cannot be avoided really.
Stage-3 from anyone is going to push things more and may have an impact on the other transmission and chassis components. But let's face it, if you want Caterham Se7en speed, poise and grunt then you'd surely have bought a Se7en in the first place?!
Still like the look of those cast rocker covers, just which they said S&S and not JAP!
