Not on mine...
the gauge needle is rock solid and looking at the % display it changes by no more than 2 or 3% during normal driving. Steep slopes make a more significant difference, more as you describe.
But given my car spend its first year at the factory I'm not sure quite how standard it all is...
Peter how do you cope with an accurate gauge. I would take it back and get them to replace it with the standard wandering gauge. It's part of the fun not knowing whether or not you will make the next petrol station.
