Can anyone out there with an early (pre-war) 4/4 help me please. I am having a new hood made by a local trimmer and all is set to go ahead except we have no idea about the hood frame webbing.

Approx 2.5in
How is it attached to the frame hoops?
You should have 3 hoops this depends on how many sections your hood is made of hoop for the rear two sections
ie. from rear body to height is the rear window section , then up and approx to highest point somewhere above front of axel followed to approx rear of doors .
It is measured that the hoops are inline with the hood stiching there are two lengths of webbing one above each seat . You need a loop stiching in each one where they touch the hood seams and should be tight when pulled ( that is 6 , 3 for each side ) so the hood bars can slip through them . The webbing can be fitted to the carpet above the petrol tank pull the topof the carpet off and stich the webbing on once you are 100% sure and when pulled up should be tight . With the webbing in the middle of the seats, if you let go then it all falls back to the rear of the car . Get the hood bars powder coated 1st . Also make sure you know the correct way to fit them in the sides put a paper sticker on each bar at each side .
The frame is kept up by the hood being fastened to the screen .

Now go and have a look at other mogs take your camera and a jotter , pencil and rubber and a tape measure .
I have just spent a good while watching a trimmer doing mine and he had other cars in two 1920s Alvis they come in with nothing and they build them from scratch frames hoods etc . I really can not help myself I have to have a look at everything I see people do .
Is it fastened to the body at the rear, if so how?
What is the distance between the hoops with the frame in the raised position?
What keeps the frame up when the hood is on?
Can you recommended a webbing supplier?
Photographs and/or drawings and measurements would be a great help
