Yes the sought after Lotus Elise Type 25 is certainly a looker although the running gear would appear unchanged other than trim bits.

I was put off Loti for life when as a young qualified driver of 17 I was the first on scene at a serious RTA involving a Lotus Elan on the Acle straight in Norfolk.
The chassis was the only recognisable clue and there was fragmented fibreglass and body parts everywhere the imagery being on total recall for life.


It would be a mistake to assume any common design between the first Elan and the current Elise. The latter has the same glued and rivetted chassis as the Aero and in practise crashes rather well if expensively ( the chassis cannot be repaired - officially). The Evora using the same system had to undergo the usual crash testing for the US market before launch but I dont think the Elise did being designed many years ago as the car that syarted the current chassis trend now used by other small volume cars like Aston and Aero.
