We lived in that area through the 1990s and cycled everywhere.
Back in South Wiltshire we quickly gave up cycling, the roads were not cycle friendly and it was just not enjoyable.

Talking to local planners at the time it soon became clear that there were no plans to change anything, mostly because proper cycle tracks need space and along most roads there is nowhere to put them and no money to build them.

More recently the lack of road maintenance has made the situation worse, after 10 years gathering dust our nice German bikes went to the tip: no one wanted them, even as a gift.
