Almost all +4s in regular use have modified parts in some form or other.
Electronic ignition is a good idea, and as others have said it should be more reliable than points. However I would ensure that you carry the wiring diagram around with you, just in case you want to work on it away from home, points are understood by almost any service depot, electronic ignition systems less so.
