When I replaced my wings, I didn't bother refitting the strips. Less places for mud to gather! More bodywork to polish!

I don't get the point of the strips. After all, you don't want people treading on the wings. The strips are only likely to encourage this.
In any case, the wings look better without them IMHO - it's one more thing to cause unnecessary problems.
